Now the project is complete, working, implemented and rolled-out it’s finished.
Wrong!
Benefits
Realisation
The product of the project is finished but has it done what the Business Case said it would? Has it brought the benefits it promised, the savings, improvements, the market edge etc? Where is the Return On Investment?
Until the Benefits Realisation exercise is carried out the project has simply replaced one system with another, changed procedures, introduced different practices etc.
Open Enterprise can help you develop a Benefits Plan and select an Analysis technique appropriate to the changes you predicted in the Business Case. We can help you conduct the Benefits Analysis and evidence the benefits so that the next time you go before the Board with a Business Case you will have positive proof that your
Business Case arguments are reliable and carry substance.
Post-Mortems
for Failed Projects
So you didn’t bother to take professional advice and now the project has
failed and cost you, how much! Well, its possibly not entirely lost. The
project Business Case was well costed, justified and – you thought –
well managed. For a company who probably capitalises all software
development projects, waiting until the project delivers before
capitalising is overlooking the value of the deliverables already
produced.
A project post-mortem can help you achieve two things. First it will help
you identify how and why the project failed and ensure the ‘lessons
learnt’ will not be repeated. Second, it will also help you identify
re-useability of products already delivered and to value and capitalise
them. At least they will become a Fixed Asset and can be re-used.
Open Enterprise will help you to ensure that not everything is
lost.
